Formative Evaluation of Family and Juvenile Courts in Viet Nam

This study focuses on evaluating the establishment and operations of F&JCs – a specialized institution to strengthen justice for minors within the current legal framework through the criteria of relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, and scalability/sustainability, highlighting achievements and barriers, and proposes ways to further promote F&JCs as part of broader legal and judicial reform in Viet Nam.

Independence, Impartiality and Integrity of the Judiciary in Vietnam is a collaborative research project between Professor Pip Nicholson and Lawyer Nguyen Hung Quang. The research finds that judicial independence in Vietnam differs from the concept as understood in Western judicial systems. However, the authors also observe signs that the Vietnamese State is seeking opportunities to improve the integrity, transparency, operational capacity of the judiciary, and the protection of citizens’ rights.

There are necessarily specialized staff with experience in the “one stop shop”. The “one stop shop” may increase the time pressure on the judges to handle the cases. The “one stop shop” may be a “filter” to limit the new cases.
